Father’s Day Special: Make Your Own Negroni

There has been growing and renewed interest in classic cocktails since late 2015. In fact, Singapore’s bar scene is experiencing the return of timeless concoctions such as Negronis, Vesper Martinis and Old Fashioned cocktails. These drinks are back in the spotlight and taking over fanciful molecular drinks.

We know that alcoholic drinks can be really expensive when consumed in bars — with prices ranging approximately S$25 for a fancy cocktail. But it doesn’t always have to be a pricey affair when it comes to drinking. With Father’s Day just around the corner, why not rope your Dad in for some quality family bonding time by making your own Negroni?

From The Classic Negroni, The Oriental Negroni to The Boulevardier Negroni, here are three recipes you can follow to concoct your own Negroni cocktail — DIY it with Dad or surprise him with these lovely concoctions!


All recipes serve 4 glasses

The Classic Negroni Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 100ml Gin
  • 100ml Campari
  • 100ml Vermouth (sweet)
  • Orange Peel for Garnish
  • 4 Cocktail glasses of your choice

Directions:

  1. Add everything together to a shaker and add ice.
  2. Fill the glasses with ice.
  3. Shake well and strain everything into a glass of your choice.
  4. Garnish with orange peel.

The Oriental Negroni Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 100ml Gin
  • 100ml Campari
  • 100ml Vermouth (sweet)
  • Orange Peel for Garnish
  • 10grams of loose Oolong Tea leaves (or any of your favourite Chinese tea leaves. Alishan works well too)
  • Orange Peel or Edible Flowers for Garnish

Directions:

  1. Add everything into a shaker.
  2. Fill the cocktail glasses with ice.
  3. Stir the mixture in the glass slowly.
  4. Let the tea leaves infuse for 5 – 10 minutes.
  5. Add ice and shake well.
  6. Strain everything into the glasses of your choice.
  7. Garnish with orange peel. (Or edible flowers)

The Boulevardier Negroni Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 200 ml Bourbon
  • 75 ml Parts Campari
  • 75 ml Parts Vermouth (sweet)

Directions:

  1. Add everything together to a shaker and add ice.
  2. Fill the glasses with ice.
  3. Shake well and strain everything into a glass of your choice.
  4. Garnish with orange peel.

Chug Tips:

  • You can try to flame the orange peel on top the drink and give it a gentle squeeze before dropping the peel into the drink.
  • Use a sweet variation of Vermouth.
  • Lightly salt the edge of your cocktail glass to give dimension to your Negroni.
